With the Marlu’s heavy-duty independent suspension and TOUGH DOG 4WD shocks, we had complete confidence in tackling the roughest of roads. The 16-inch mud terrain tyres and the galvanised chassis meant that we could explore without worrying about the camper’s ability to keep up with our adventurous spirit.
  • Comfort in the Wilderness: After a day of exploring the challenging tracks and remote beaches, coming back to the Marlu was pure bliss. The fixed queen bed with a plush pillow-top mattress ensured we were well-rested for the next day’s adventure. The camper’s fully enclosed annexe and spacious lounge area provided us with a cozy space to relax and enjoy the evening, far from the bugs and elements.
  • Off-Grid Ready: Cape York offers limited access to amenities, but that’s not an issue with the Marlu Hybrid. With 720W of REDARC solar panels and a 200AH lithium battery, we had all the power we needed to keep the lights on and the fridge running throughout our trip. This allowed us to truly disconnect from the outside world and enjoy the peaceful serenity of Cape York.

 

  • Essentials on Hand: One of the highlights of Cape York is its remote beaches, perfect for fishing and outdoor cooking. The Marlu’s stainless steel slide-out kitchen with a 4-burner gas stove and pressurised water made preparing meals easy, even in the middle of nowhere. Whether we were grilling freshly caught fish or whipping up a simple meal, it felt like we had all the comforts of home.

Top Spots to Visit in Cape York

While Cape York is full of natural wonders, there are a few spots that stand out for couples looking to immerse themselves in the beauty of the region:

  1. The Tip of Cape York
    Reaching the northernmost point of Australia is a bucket-list experience for many. The trek to “The Tip” is a mix of coastal tracks and rugged trails, but the payoff is worth it. Standing on the edge of the continent, with nothing but ocean and sky in front of you, is a surreal experience.
  2. Fruit Bat Falls
    One of the most popular stops along the Old Telegraph Track, Fruit Bat Falls offers crystal-clear freshwater pools and cascading waterfalls. It’s the perfect spot for a refreshing swim after a long day of driving. The Marlu’s quick setup meant we could easily stop and relax here for the night, with the sound of the falls as our background music.
  3. Punsand Bay
    Located just 5km from The Tip, Punsand Bay is a beautiful beachfront campground with stunning sunsets and views over the Torres Strait Islands. This was one of our favourite places to set up camp with the Marlu, enjoying the sea breeze and the panoramic views.
